It's time to show your city how you feel! Throughout February, we're celebrating NYC with a special challenge for all of our city families (and visitors!). We've crafted a Tic Tac Toe board with some of the most fun things to do this month in order to lure you out of your warm homes and take advantage of this cool city!
We're eagerly getting ready to celebrate the Lunar New Year which starts on January 22, 2023 (Chinese New Year) and ends on February 9, 2024 (Chinese New Year's Eve). This year is the Year of the Rabbit. Specifically the Water Rabbit. Congrats all you Rabbits and Rabbits-to-Be! You Rock!
The Rabbit is a symbol of longevity, peace and prosperity and 2023, according to China Highlights, is expected to be a year of hope. We can only hope this is true! Rabbits are thought to be vigilant, witty, quick minded and ingenious.
Family Fun in NYC This Weekend: Lightscape at the Brooklyn Botanical Garden
Trying to figure out what to do this weekend? Babesta's got your back with a fresh pick for fun familiy activities in NYC : Lightscape at the Brooklyn Botanical Garden
With the shrinking spread of department stores in NYC (still teary over Barney’s), the holiday window game desperately needed some new contenders. Enter Piehole, a NYC live arts collective that is debuting its advent-calendar style story Christmas Mountain, officially kicking off the holiday season in the windows of The Greene Space at WNYC and WQXR in Soho. Blending hand-crafted animatronics, original music and oodles of video screens, the story traces the holiday experience of a grumpy mouse who’s charged with the task of getting their mouse community’s TVs up and running. We can all relate. Nothing worse than when you’re counting on your show and you’re hit with a tech issue! These mice know the longest day of the year—the Winter Solstice—is fast approaching and their antenna that ensures they get their fix of Christmas themed television is broken. Can this grumpy mouse save the day? You’ll have to stop by daily to see!
Every night at sundown, 4:45 pm, from Decemb
Enter into the cavernous building on Pier 36 in NYC, and find yourself transported to ancient Egypt to follow the short and storied life of King Tutankhamun, the boy King. Marking the 100th anniversary of the discovery of his tomb in the Valley of the Kings, the exhibit that was made in partnership with the National Geographic Society, is a fascinating look at the life of a pharaoh who lived 3000 years in the past.
We're getting really excited for Halloween and have pulled together some must-dos this weekend!!
Many years ago I hosted a birthday party at the MET (a Harry Potter scavenger hunt – highly recommended), but I’ll never forget one little 8 year old who, red-faced, immediately declared how inappropriate the museum was! I looked around in embarrassment not realizing the risqué nature of a few of the Greek and Roman statues that surrounded us with ne’er a fig leaf. Little boys and girls did not even try to stifle their giggles. So it’s with that caveat I recommend the Klimt Gold in Motion exhibit.
We’re always on the lookout for family friendly activities for weekends in the city. That’s why we were happy to see the Center for Italian Modern Art is hosting a new exhibit: Bruno Munari: The Child Within.
We were very excited to snap up our free ticket and queue up on 23rd at The Living Portrait NYC, an interactive installation put on by Citizens Bank.
We’ve always been big fans of the fall season, what with the apple picking, pumpkin patches and cornfield mazes. This is more than a daytrip, yes, but it’s got all the markings of an epic weekend! Check out The Great Vermont Maze, the largest corn maze in New England, designed by 5th generation Boudreau family.
